Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine can help a lot of common health conditions.

Head in Hands

Headaches

One of the most common ailments in society and should not be taken lightly.

It may well be a symptom of some underlying imbalance or deeper problem.

Headaches may be the result of a wide range of things including emotional distress, occupational hazards, poor diet, hormonal imbalances, trauma, weather, high blood pressure, sinus......

Using a wide variety of Acupuncture and/or Chinese medicine techniques I strive to suit the individual needs of every client. First, I conduct a thorough assessment covering all aspects of your health. Then, I develop a plan that’s designed to suit your needs.

Acupuncture can be a drugless alternative to the pain you are experiencing. Your care can begin without you actually having a headache. After all, prevention is better than cure.

By using the correct needle point combination I will attempt to return your body back to a comfortable state by removing tension, decreasing inflammation, and eliminating itchiness.
Skin diseases can be notoriously difficult to move but a combination of acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, dietary ideas and external application balms will be adopted as part of your care plan.

Allergies and Immune System Disorders

Easily catching colds and being susceptible to allergies is a good way of your body telling you that your Immune System is in need of a boost.
In Chinese medicine this relates very much to your Lung energy being depleted. Often times this may manifest with a cough, sweating, sore throat, chills and fever, easily catching anything that is going around, sinus problems etc, etc.
With a consultation involving many questions I will form a diagnosis and treat you with acupuncture and/or Chinese herbal medicine to boost your immune system and eradicate any manifestation you may present with.
The immune system can be boosted at any time whether or not you have a cold or allergy at the time you visit the clinic. For example- you may come in for a session in Summer or Autumn to boost yourself for the coming Winter. Remember! Prevention is better than cure.

Paediatric Disorders

Children have very dynamic systems and can respond to acupuncture quickly.
They can get sick very quickly but also respond very quickly to treatments. I returned to China in 1993 to do specialised studies in Paediatrics at the Red Cross Hospital in Hangzhou. I will give acupuncture to a child only if they are open to it otherwise I will prescribe herbs.
In the case of babies and acupuncture needles are not retained- they are inserted for a second and removed.

Asthma

With asthma there is always some type of allergy present and commonly inhaled allergens include pollen, moulds, dust and animal hair. Sometimes foods can trigger an attack. Upper respiratory infections, exercising in cold conditions, stress and emotional upsets are also triggering factors.
In most cases Chinese medicine and Western medicine treatment are given simultaneously and any drugs may be cut down as the disorder improves ( with the doctor's advice). The principal aim of the treatment is to relieve the acute attacks and get the serious symptoms under control. In acute attacks it is still important to use Western medications (Ventolin, antibiotics, etc.) which can safely be combined with herbal treatments. These treatments, however, are only temporary and unless further tonifying treatments to build up the constitution are undertaken then the attacks will most probably continue into the future.

Cold and Flu/ Coughs

For more than 2000 years Chinese medicine has had more to say about colds and 'flu than simply take a panadol and sudafed and go to bed. The treatment of colds and their complications was first described in detail in the Shang Han Lun, a Chinese medical classic, in the 2nd century AD.
While it is now well established that colds and 'flu are of viral origin and that many of the herbs used for these conditions have antiviral properties, the traditional approach is still the most clinically useful when using Chinese herbs.
If suffering from the early signs of colds or 'flu like sore throat, fever, chills, cough, sinus, sweat or no sweat, myalgia, headache, lots of mucus/sputum visit your Chinese Medicine practitioner.
Instead of staying away and thinking "I don't want to spread my germs- I'll stay at home" it is the best time to visit the clinic for a treatment. The herbs and diagnosis process used for several thousand years has been tried and tested with excellent results.
As well as using herbs I include acupuncture, moxibustion, cupping  and syrups when treating colds and 'flu.

Acupuncture is safe, effective and drug free with no adverse side effects and combines well with other modalities.
It helps in the release of "happy hormones" which can effectively provide quick pain relief. A wide variety of gynaecological and obstetric problems can be addressed with acupuncture's ability to help regulate hormonal function.

IVF Support. Before and after transfers.

Acupuncture is safe and has no adverse side effects. Treatments work in conjunction with your IVF treatment and not only benefits your well being but also that of your baby. The acupuncture imparts a feeling of well-being and emotional stability during such a stressful time and can significantly increase your chances of a positive outcome. The benefits of acupuncture are not age related.

Acupuncture increases blood circulation to the ovaries and uterus and increase the capacity for conception. This improves embryo and egg quality and uterine environment to assist with implantation.

Research results are positive for women who want to use acupuncture during embryo transfer to increase success rates. Research has also shown positive results having acupuncture before and after transfer. Additional acupuncture 1 to 3 days after transfer potentially supports implantation and reduces stress. It is a must for calming the mind, maintaining energy and reinforcing positivity.

Prior to starting IVF:

Having acupuncture and Chinese herbs prior to beginning IVF can help prepare by regulating your cycle and assisting with ovulation. It is sometimes a good idea to have a preparatory course of treatment from 3 months prior to the IVF drug regime.

After receiving your positive pregnancy result it is advised to have weekly visits for acupuncture throughout your first trimester followed by monthly sessions up to week 35 and the weekly visits up to the birth.

Infertility

Acupuncture can increase fertility by reducing stress, increasing blood flow to the reproductive organs and balancing the endocrine system.
Traditional Chinese Medicine treatment for infertility is a cumulative process. Regulating the menstrual cycle, soothing the Liver (ie. reducing stress), and boosting the Kidney energy (the base of fertility) are three important principles to follow.
A commitment of at least 3 to 6 months of acupuncture and chinese herbal medicine is advisable to get you ready to hold and support a successful pregnancy.

Stressed Man

Stress, mood swings, depression, emotional disorders

Stress and emotional disorders can be addressed successfully with acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine.
The seven emotions in Chinese medicine are joy, anger, grief, fear, love, hatred and obsession. When any of these present in excess it can cause an adverse affect on the body's energy (qi).

Sports Injuries

The disappointment and frustration of being sidelined through injury can take its toll. The first question is - "How can I get back to normal as soon as possible?"

As a general rule treatment of sports injury relies on the R.I.C.E. principle - Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation. This helps reduce inflammation and swelling and associated bruising. Acupuncture helps speed up the recovery time and can get to the point of the problem quicker. Acupuncture stimulates the chemical healers in the body resulting in less pain and gives you the ability to get back into action quicker. It can cut healing time by improving blood supply to the affected area, and reduce oedema and swelling.

Acupuncture helps sports people cross the pain barrier by generating endorphins (happy hormones) which helps generate a pleasant feeling and reduce pain. This also helps create a psychological edge and can enhance performance by relaxing tight muscles and increasing blood flow.

Back Massage

Back Pain

Low back pain in Chinese Medicine encompasses pain and discomfort in one or both side of the thoracic, lumbar and/or sacral areas and the buttocks. Pain originating in the lumbar region is one of the most common complaints presenting in the clinic and affects about 80% of people at some stage of their lives.

The Chinese noticed that disorders affecting the Kidney often gave rise to low back pain and called the lower back the Palace of the Kidney. In Chinese Medicine a large proportion of low back aches have a component of some Kidney depletion.

Acupuncture can offer relief. Back pain can be the result of numerous causes- trauma, emotional disorders, structural changes, pelvic disorders or disc herniation to name a few.

Your acupuncturist will ask numerous questions to get to the root of the problem and then formulate a plan to address the situation.

Acupuncture is a pain free, drug free modality effective at addressing numerous pain issues.

Chris often uses acupuncture in combination with other therapies including cupping, massage, moxibustion and infra-red heat therapy.
